QUESTION:
I have a question about high-performance clutches for my 2005 Mustang GT. The car is currently pushing about 400 horsepower at the rear wheels, but my goal is to hit around 550 rwhp. My present clutch is not holding up at this power level, so I definitely need to get another one. I need something I can use both on the street and on the strip. What do you recommend?

Well, I didn’t manage to prepare myself the way I had planned for the Road Atlanta event. Out of the month of time in between these events, I hoped to pick up the cobra and get some street time with it each weekend. Instead, I only managed to drive it for a few hours on one night- not exactly the great practice I was hoping for. It wasn’t even enough time to really tell how I felt about the new Sullivan Racing pedals my father had put on the car.

We drove up on Friday just in time to see the Enduro race. Unlike CMP, the Road Atlanta course has multiple long roads leading to the various portions of the course. Luckily, it didn’t take too long to figure out the roads and the track. It was drizzling off and on, so the track was rather wet. We were able to go to the back hill that overlooks “Esses”, Turns 6 & 7, and then down the back straight. It was the perfect spot to post up to catch the action of the race and get some good photos. It was also the perfect spot to see exactly how much the wet track was affecting the racers as they entered Turn 7 and you could notice many of them push their cars to the point where the back end would begin to slip out before they would (hopefully) recover.

If you had been at Road Atlanta this past weekend(March 14-16, 2008) for the NASA-SE race weekend, you would have been in for a real treat.

Two weeks ago Ford delivered its first FR500S race Mustangs. These cars are meant for the Miller Cup race series and with the debut race at Road Atlanta in a little more than a month many FR500S owners took advantage of the NASA race weekend to try out their new toys.

Rehagan Racing and Stable One of Maryland had eight of these cars on the race track and they looked very good.

Mustang On Track has its own race team. We take our name, Terra X RaceSport from the team name that our '95 Cobra R Raced under back in the day.

For what we are doing here, though, we can call ourselves Mustang On Track racing or MOT racing.

This past weekend we were scheduled to do the NASA-SE Road Atlanta race. That would be a three hour enduro on Friday with Dwight Kelly and I sharing the driving. Then American Iron races in the Cobra R for me on Saturday and Sunday along with our student driver teammate Alison Goodwin in her second round of NASA HPDE 1.
