For 2008 Carolina Motorsports Park has made changes to the race track creating a second configuration. The new course rounds off the edges in the tight back section of the course. This area with several short straights followed by hard braking and a 90 degree or greater corners was hard on equipment, particularly brakes. The more horsepower the car had the more brakes were effected by the hard breaking and short cooling zones. CMP responded with changes to turns 12 13 and 14. They also repaved with fresh asphalt the each corner on the track from turn in to track out. This seems to have really helped with tire wear. Whether this is the solution for the brake problems will take a while to sort out. Here is your first look at the new course at CMP. This is Ken Goldwasser in his American Iron Mustang Cobra for a lap around CMP. |

Terra X RaceSport Cobra R #05 at Road Atlanta. August, 2008. This is an educational video. Its my first NASA American Iron race. NASA rules require rookies to start their first race in the back of the field. Only a couple of veterans who missed qualifying starting behind me. The first couple of laps fall into the 'do' catagory. The fast guys behind me got by easily, but we all passed a number of cars. Then the 'don't' part comes up. I forgot my own game plan of being patient and finishing the race. I got too racy with the fast mustang that had passed me and ended up hitting the tire wall. The damage was minor, but it was a lesson learned. |
