Roebling Road is definitely a different type of track than Road Atlanta, Sebring, or CMP. Rather than multiple straightaways and tight turns, Roebling is a series of rather high speed gradual sweeps and carousel turns with only one significant straight to speak of. I was able to drive up on Thursday night after work, managed to catch a few hours of sleep, and be at the track Friday morning for an event called Seat-Time run by Jon Krolewicz. My instructor at Seat-Time turned out to be the son of the instructor I had at my very first track event down in Sebring two years ago. The Seat-Time event runs approximately the same as the NASA HPDE events, but since there are a total of 4 run groups everyone gets a lot more track time during the day. The run groups are also much smaller which helps reduce traffic jams on the course. And Roebling is a course that is more susceptible to traffic jams since there are very few passing zones.

Dwight and I got a chance to shake down our Steeda '95 Cobra R for the first time after accident repairs at Road Atlanta last weekend with a 90 minute SCCA Enduro. We found somethings that we didn't like and had a chance the very next weekend to try and work thru some of those issues. This would be a NASA Southeast American Iron race weekend at Savannah's historic Roebling Road Raceway. Without question this is my best race track. I have more laps here than any other course in the year and a half that I have been racing. I am comfortable with the surroundings and the race track. It has resulted in my best finish in a NASA race, a 3rd in AI class in September, '07 and some of my most competitive lap times. |

Rob Bodle and I teamed up again for an endurance race in the 05 Steeda Mustang. The guys at Ponder Racing had completed the repairs after my big accident at Road Atlanta's Turn 12 during the very wet NASA 3 hour enduro.
Luckily the impact with the tire wall didn't damage the suspension and the repairs were limited to some light body and paint work, replacing the windshield and power steering cooler -- and removing several pounds of rocks from the gravel trap. The windshield was cracked from a rock striking it on the inside! |

Well, I didn’t manage to prepare myself the way I had planned for the Road Atlanta event. Out of the month of time in between these events, I hoped to pick up the cobra and get some street time with it each weekend. Instead, I only managed to drive it for a few hours on one night- not exactly the great practice I was hoping for. It wasn’t even enough time to really tell how I felt about the new Sullivan Racing pedals my father had put on the car. We drove up on Friday just in time to see the Enduro race. Unlike CMP, the Road Atlanta course has multiple long roads leading to the various portions of the course. Luckily, it didn’t take too long to figure out the roads and the track. It was drizzling off and on, so the track was rather wet. We were able to go to the back hill that overlooks “Esses”, Turns 6 & 7, and then down the back straight. It was the perfect spot to post up to catch the action of the race and get some good photos. It was also the perfect spot to see exactly how much the wet track was affecting the racers as they entered Turn 7 and you could notice many of them push their cars to the point where the back end would begin to slip out before they would (hopefully) recover. |

Mustang On Track has its own race team. We take our name, Terra X RaceSport from the team name that our '95 Cobra R Raced under back in the day. For what we are doing here, though, we can call ourselves Mustang On Track racing or MOT racing. This past weekend we were scheduled to do the NASA-SE Road Atlanta race. That would be a three hour enduro on Friday with Dwight Kelly and I sharing the driving. Then American Iron races in the Cobra R for me on Saturday and Sunday along with our student driver teammate Alison Goodwin in her second round of NASA HPDE 1. |
